The American Academy of Ozonotherapy (AAOT) met for its 11th  Annual Congress May 4 – 6, 2023 in Dallas, TX.  It was the first time I had attended an in-person medical conference since 2019, and it was a pure delight.

Dr. Frank Shallenberger, MD, the founder of AAOT, has trained many of the physicians practicing ozone therapy in the United States and around the world. He presented a review of recent published studies on the clinical use of
ozone therapy in medicine. The medical literature contains literally thousands of papers speaking to the safety and efficacy of ozone therapy for a broad range of indications. My personal favorite recent paper was a study on
ankylosing spondylitis (AS) published just last month.

Effect of ozone therapy on neutrophil/lymphocyte, platelet/lymphocyte ratios, and disease activity in ankylosing
spondylitis: a self-controlled randomized study. The study involved 53 patients diagnosed with AS who were treated with major autohemotherapy twice a week for 5 weeks, resulting in objective improvement by lab testing, pain levels, function, and activity.    https://www.medgasres.com/article.asp?issn=2045-9912;year=2023;volume=13;issue=2;spage=53;epage=58;aulast=Inci

Dr. Phil Mollica, DMD, the current President of AAOT, gave a great review of mechanisms of action of ozone therapy as well as published studies on its use in dentistry.

Dr. Tom Lodi, MD, flew in from his integrative oncology Oasis of Healing center in Thailand to speak not only about the role of diet, vitamin C, and ozone therapy, but also about the psychospiritual roots of cancer.

Dr. Thomas E. Levy, MD, JD, gave an elegant review of the redox cycle and how vitamin C contributes to electrical homeostasis.  Recent insights from the research literature were imparted, and these words from Dr. Levy ring in my ears: “The primary role of the immune system is to bring vitamin C where it’s supposed to be.”

EBOO (Extracorporeal Blood Oxygenation with Ozonation) and stem cell therapy were among other topics presented.
